#LikeaGirl SOAPSTone
In the ever so famous super bowl commercial sponsored by Always, #LikeaGirl, Lauren Greenfield directs and attempt to shift societal views. Having aired during the super bowl, the audience was wide and vast, but when given a closer look consisted of males by a majority. This was picked completely on purpose. The commercial attempts to spread awareness of common day sexism and its effect on ageing female youth. In short, it is a call for change - towards men and for that matter all of society. The commercial begins with an interesting, but playful prompting of those of all ages and genders to run like a girl. While those male or older showcase the stereotypical frail running style exemplified by the sexist cliche, the younger females run at their full potential. Here, the tone shifts to more of a dramatic and informative one, fully extending the point that change needs to occur, and that "like a girl" should not be an insult, but something to take pride in.
